Updating Outlook Express 6.0 for SSL

If you are trying to setup Outlook Express for the first time, click here.

These instructions are for NCF members who have *already* setup Outlook Express and wish only to update to use Secure (SSL) connections.

Note: If you are a DSL subcriber and are having trouble sending mail, following these steps should resolve your difficulties.

To update your Outlook Express setup to use SSL do the following:

• Open Outlook Express.
• On the 'Tools' menu, click on 'Accounts'.
• 
• In the 'Internet Accounts' dialog box, select the Mail tab.
• select the NCF account, click Properties, and then click on the Advanced tab.
• 
• Select the Advanced tab.
• Check the box for This server requires a secure connection (SSL) for both the outgoing and incoming servers.
• Change the port for the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) to 465.
• 
• Now select the Servers tab.
• Select the option My server requires authentication.
• 
• Click the Settings button and ensure it has selected the option Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
• 
• Click OK. Click Close.
• Now test the configuration by sending yourself an email.

The above configuration should work even if you are using a wireless laptop at an internet cafe. The transfer of your password and email between your computer and NCF will be protected by SSL.
