Francophones to help francophones into new freenets by Jules
Lafrance Realtime Online Ottawa - 1600 hr, August 16, 1994. A
discussion group made up of participants from many places
inside and outside of Ottawa discussed the type of input that
Canada Telecommunities could and should provide to groups
planning new freenets. These include: - the development of
norms which will facilitate the use of French on freenets; -
the facilitating of methods for inscribing bilingual
material. There is a requirement for Government documentation
to be issued in both languages; - the recruiting of people
who will look after the needs of francophones in forming
committees whose areas of interest include locations where
French is significantly present; - the formation of technical
subcommittees who will ensure the adoption of types of
equipment and software which satisfy the particular
requirements of the French language. - the publicising among
new users (new French buyers) the preference they should give
to equipment and software which support the ISO 8859-1
(Latin1), and to a CSA approved keyboard (for use in all
languages) which are now the accepted standards for use of
accented characters and diacritics. -- Realtime Online -
