SECURITY AND RESPONSIBILITY Right now FreeNets are at a very
informal stage (more casual, run by volunteers), therefore,
security is not a major issue. But, as FreeNets grow in size
and scope will there be a need for more control and security?
The general consensus of the group was that the information
providers are the one's who should be responsible for their
own house -- if they are providing information that they only
want available to a select few, don't make it available over
the Net. It is more practical for the information provider to
edit their information, rather than FreeNet screening all
applicants. The issue of automated registration was
discussed. With such a system how do you know someone is who
they claim to be, also how do you get a signature
(electronically) to bind you to the FreeNet's acceptable use
agreement. One argument in favour of the paper registration
is that the registration form is often sent back with a
donation!
