      donors as well. ie., show an information provider that
      providing their information over the net is a much more
      cost-effective approach, and with all this money we are
      helping you save, how about using some of that money as a
      donation to Freenet. In one group it was suggested that, to
      help support freenets financially, volunteer public
      subscriptions could be used, but some of our American
      colleagues pointed out that this hasn't been a particularly
      effective fundraising method for many public radio and
      telvision stations in the US. HOW DO YOU RAISE MONEY TO RUN
      YOUR FREENET, OTHER THAN BY BEGGING? It's possible to charge
      information providers to put their information on the system.
      You could also consider adding a menu item for commercials,
      which would be paid for by advertisers. A couple of other
      creative suggestions are to get corporate sponsors for some
      of your phone lines or to get local computer stores, etc., to
      donate equipment such as modems. The philosophy of freenets
      is that "free" implies universal access to information, not
      necessarily the provision of information at no cost.
