The choice of board members is up to the membership. So please vote and don't forget you can change your vote up until the final day. You should vote for me if you want someone experienced with being on community boards. If you want some one who has volunteered with the NCF a lot you can also vote for me.
I would hope that we could provide everyone who wants to connect to the Internet with access and perhaps help with getting an older computer. This is what I do for friends who need to "be on the net". Why?
Getting on the net in 1994 was a great opportunity for me. I soon learned to write and read using the old NCF interface. I still use it sometimes these days. But being on the net also showed me the value of this use of computers. I owe this new economy tool to the NCF. I am now a web master even planning to get some more web master training through the Rainbow Skills Centre this summer. My experiences with computers go back to my learning Fortran IV in high school and using it on my first job. I could not get on the net in the '80's because of lack of funds. The NCF made it possible to get on the net and there is no stopping me now.
I am disabled with schizophrenia and active in the disabled community both in Ottawa and Ontario and also on the net with other English speakers. I am also active in my pursuits and volunteer while doing these. I use the sigs in NCF that are about my interests. These vary and there are over twenty sigs that I read and keep up on regularly. I like to cycle and am an active green party member, a part-time statistics student at Carleton, and a musician. I am presently on the Board of the Psychiatric Survivors of Ottawa. There are many more things about myself you can learn using the links below.
I would hope to promote FreeNet one person at a time and also to help with fund raising campaigns if elected. I will faithfully attend board meetings and use my judgment and knowledge to guide the board & NCF as a non-profit to the best of my ability. NCF should be a model resource for on-line expertise, as we are a public on-line service. I will promote the NCF as I see it a community of knowledgeable computer users helping each other and also helping other pretty near everyone use the Internet.
