When you throw electronics in the trash, they wind up in landfills where they can cause toxic materials to seep into rivers and other bodies of water, groundwater, and the soil, affecting both land and sea animals. You can prevent that by dropping off old and un-used equipment at NCF to be recycled.
This is also part of our commitment to helping our members feel safe online: before they are recycled, old computers and cell phones are destroyed to ensure no one has access to your personal data. While your equipment is awaiting pick-up, we keep it locked at our office.
We work with Valoritec, a registered e-waste recycler and work-creation social enterprise in Gatineau, as our partner in this work.
You can drop off old electronic items like computers and computer parts, modems and routers, printers, monitors, TVs, VCRs and DVD players, cell phones, scanners, cables and old computer disks during office hours. Please do not leave things in our lobby or in front of our door.
If you are not sure if we are able to recycle something, please check with us by contacting the HelpDesk at support@ncf.ca or calling 613-721-1773 ext. 0.
If you donate an old or unused modem or router, we will test it and if it works, will reconfigure it to provide an affordable modem for other NCF members.
You can also donate other unused electronic goods that we might be able to find another life for, just let us know when you drop it off if you want it recycled or if it can be re-used.
